Toronto – The Stop Community Food Centre
The Stop strives to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community and challenges inequality.
The Stop has been on the front lines of tackling hunger and poverty for over 30 years. Initially functioning as a conventional food bank, The Stop has blossomed into an innovative, respectful food justice organization that promotes equitable food access, community development, nutrition and environmental health. Our work is based on the belief that food is a basic human right. The Stop runs a range of programs including community dining, kitchens and gardens, pre and post natal nutrition and support, educational programs, a food bank and a drop-in. We are located in Davenport West, which is widely recognized as one of Toronto’s poorest and most underserviced neighbourhoods. We serve a diverse population, many of whom lack sufficient income to buy adequate amounts of healthy food.
